On February 22, Police arrested six individuals, including Ramandeep Kaur, Sarabjit Singh alias Sabba, Amritpal Singh alias Abhijot, Jarnail Singh alias Goldy from Ludhiana District of Punjab, and two women from an unspecified location, and recovered 4.804 kilograms (kg) of heroin, an illegal weapon, and a luxury vehicle, linked to Pakistan-based smugglers, reports The Tribune. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Staff team intercepted a suspicious Mahindra Thar parked near Green Avenue. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 1.008 kg of heroin and INR 30,000 in drug money hidden in a kit bag. During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that the contraband had been supplied by Amardeep Singh alias Boxer, a resident of Ferozepur, for INR 260,000. Police tracked Boxer’s XUV-500 and apprehended him along with an associate, Dimple Rani. A search recovered an additional 3.796 kg of heroin (five packets), a .30 bore pistol, and three live cartridges. The accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers who smuggled heroin into India using drones. Boxer, a dismissed Punjab Armed Police (PAP) employee, has nine prior FIRs for drug and firearm offences. Goldy, an Army personnel, highlights the cartel’s attempt to use “clean” profiles to bypass security checks.
