On February 15, two persons involved in a shooting at migrant labourers in Moga District of Punjab were arrested following an encounter with police near Ghalkalan village, reports The Tribune. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted Akashdeep Singh and Jobanpreet Singh on a motorcycle. When signalled to stop, the accused opened fire. Police retaliated in self-defence, injuring one suspect who was later hospitalised. Two pistols and the motorcycle used were recovered. The incident is linked to a February 10 attack on seven to eight migrant workers returning from a rice sheller on Zira Road, where two men allegedly opened fire, injuring two. Video footage circulated on social media showed individuals claiming responsibility with derogatory remarks against workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Police are investigating links between the arrested suspects and the online claimants.
