On 20 February 2026, an unidentified individual, belonging to a group of suspected illegal gold miners and poachers, shot and injured an agent of the Ivorian Office of Parks and Reserves (OIPR) in the Bouna sector of the Comoe National Park, coded to nearby Bouna (Bouna, Bounkani, Zanzan). The shooting occurred as the agent pursued the group after surprising them inside the protected area with his patrol team. He was injured in the right leg and taken to Bouna hospital. There were no fatalities.
