On 18 February 2026, at least 4 Ukrainian drones struck unidentified targets in Cheboksary and surrounding areas. Russian air defense intercepted some of the drones, causing the debris to fall over the are. 1 civilian man was injured, several cars were damaged by the debris. The military industrial research center VNIIR-Progress was a likely target for the attack, however it is unknown whether the drones actually reached it.
