Around 18 February 2026 (as reported), in Ambato (Ambato, Tungurahua), police forces engaged in an armed clash with armed assailants during a vehicle pursuit linked to a kidnapping case. During the chase, one of the assailants fired at police officers. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed, allowing police to arrest two suspects, while other perpetrators escaped. Authorities seized firearms, ammunition, stolen goods, mobile phones, and plastic restraints. The kidnapping victim was rescued (coded separately).
