On 17 February 2026, the nephew of the Shariff Aguak mayor, both belonging to the Ampatuan clan, was shot dead by unidentified assailants along the boundary of Barangays Kabengi and Salbu (Datu Saudi-Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao). The brother of the mayor and another companion were shot and wounded. Authorities and the mayor believed the attack was related to the attack against the mayor in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay, on 25 January 2026 (coded separately).
