On 17 February 2026, in Cap-Haitien, Nord, overnight, according to witnesses, a police officer opened fire on the crowd amidst carnival-related festivities, injuring a man and a woman at the intersection of the 16 and 17 streets with L street. The man died later that night at hospital. The suspected officer was arrested several days later. The night of the incident, he was off-duty but decided to carry his service weapon. One source stated that the officer was drunk when he opened fire. 1 fatality, 1 injured.
