On 17 February 2026, about 70 ISWAP fighters on motorcycles attacked the FOB at Cross Kauwa village (Kukawa, Borno), killing between 6 and 8 soldiers and injuring twenty-three others after a gunfight with the military. The troops and CJTF, repelled the attacks, but the militants burnt down the base along with 11 gun trucks and took away the anti-aircraft guns mounted on them. 6 fatalities coded as per the lowest available estimate.
