IED event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalozai area, Pakistan on Mon 16th February 2026

On 16 February 2026, TTP militants launched a coordinated multi-phase assault on security installations and a religious seminary housing security forces in Malangi area of Mamund tehsil (coded as Khalozai (Bajaur, KPK)). The attack began with rockets and surface-to-surface projectiles described by the group as 'Al-Farooq' missiles targeting Malangi and Mena security installations, followed by a vehicle-borne suicide IED detonation at the Malangi post that destroyed sections of the compound and trapped personnel under debris. The seminary, previously used as a hideout by TTP affiliates, was completely destroyed. Militants subsequently opened ground fire, while intermittent firing hampered rescue operations. Additional rockets landed in nearby localities including Mego, Barah Zagai, Shahi Tangai, Shakro and near 55 Baloch Mena Headquarters without causing casualties. Rocket fire also struck residential areas, and militants fired at an ambulance transporting casualties. Security forces (coded as military) killed 12 TTP militants during retaliatory cordon and search operations, while attempting to flee. 25 fatalities, including 13 militants, 11 security personnel including one police officer and a child, and 9 injured, including 2 security personnel and 7 civilians. Total 25 fatalities and 7 injured.
