On 16 February 2026, in Portachuelo (Caldas), unidentified armed assailants opened fire on an Indigenous leader, who was an Indigenous council member in the Canamomo Lomaprieta Indigenous Reserve, inside a shop. A woman was injured by a stray bullet. The Indigenous leader died several hours later in hospital. He had received multiple threats in the past (unspecified). There is no information on the identity of the perpetrators but there is presence in the area of the ELN, the Gulf Clan, as well as local gangs. 1 fatality.
