On 16 February 2026, in Guayaquil - Ximena (Guayas), two unidentified armed assailants on a motorcycle intercepted a pickup truck carrying three off-duty military personnel and opened fire on them on 25 de Julio Avenue and Perimetral road (drive-by). The victims had just finished providing escort services to another vehicle in the Trinipuerto area. All three military personnel were injured and transported to a medical facility for treatment. Police arrested one suspect, a minor, who was found in possession of two firearms and 19 rounds of ammunition. There were no fatalities.
