On 16 February 2026, armed youth from the Yar/Yar-ayiei/Yaar/Yar Ayiey section of the Rek Dinka community, alongside members of the Jurwiir sub-section of the Apuk section of the Rek Dinka, attacked members of the Thony section of the Rek Dinka, resulting in a clash in the swampy areas of Wareel Village, Thiet Payam (location coded to Thiet, the nearest known location in Tonj South County, Warrap State). The incident resulted in 4 fatalities, 3 Yar and 1 Thony, and 3 injuries, all Thony. The incident was over disputed cattle ownership. An unspecified number of cattle were raided, but security personnel intervened, restored normalcy and recovered the stolen animals.
