On 15 February 2026, 2 SSPDF groups clashed amongst themselves in the Giru area of Yei County (location coded to Yei, the county headquarters in Central Equatoria State), resulting in 2 fatalities, including a senior officer, and 2 injuries. The Yei River County Commissioner noted that the incident occurred when the 2 groups, both on the same mission pursuing Mundari cattle raiders but lacking communication, mistakenly opened fire on each other. Arrests were made, and an investigation was underway.
