On 15 February 2026, Fano clashed with Amhara regional riot police, Kebele militia, and ENDF in Wereta (Woreta town, South Gondar, Amhara), leading to the killing of 1 Fano leader and 8 civilians. The clash began when the Fano forces entered the town of Wereta from five directions and attempted to seize it from the state security forces. One civilian was killed in the crossfire. The second civilian was killed when Fano broke the town's prison station, freed prisoners, and killed 1 inmate who was identified as a former government intelligence officer. The ENDF later joined the clash and used drone strikes, killing one unnamed Fano leader and 6 civilians. An additional 8 civilians were injured by the drone strike. Fano briefly controlled the town for a few hours and left after seizing weapons and ammunition.
