On 14 February 2026, JNIM militants launched an attack on forest guards deployed along trenches in the village of Tandjari (Yamba, Gourma, Est). The militants killed 47 forest guards including several trainees, and left 37 others wounded, with 15 sustaining serious injuries. The militants also seized several AK rifles, along with magazines, ammunition, and motorcycles. Official media reports have stated that between 60 and 70 forest guards were killed. In videos, JNIM displayed the scene of the attack, revealing at least 41 forest guards killed in trenches. JNIM claimed to have killed dozens of Burkinabe soldiers (meaning forest guards) in Komandougou, a village 5km south of Tandjari. In a separate statement, JNIM announced that it killed 50 soldiers (meaning forest guards), and seized and a large quantity of weapons, various military equipment, and other items in Tandjari. JNIM published photographs of the seized items. 43 fatalities coded, as the lowest estimate available.
