Grenade event in Malmö, Eriksfältsgatan area, Sweden on Sat 28th February 2026

The police were called to Eriksfältsgatan in Malmö after several people called in about a loud bang.

The police suspect that it was a hand grenade that detonated.

The incident occurred outdoors shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday night.

– There is something crater-like in the ground, says Elin Cavalli, duty officer of the police in Region South to SVT Nyheter Skåne during the night.

No one was injured in the incident, but the detonation caused minor damage to a house facade.

Residents were evacuated and the area was cordoned off pending the arrival of the national bomb shelter.

Shortly before three o'clock in the morning on Sunday, the blockades were lifted.

– We will continue to investigate what detonated, then we will compile the interviews we conducted during door-knocking to see if there is information that can move us forward in the investigation, says Filip Annas at the police press center on Sunday morning.

Police are looking for more witnesses and are urging anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.

The incident is being investigated as serious public destruction and there is currently no suspect.

Police attended earlier this week

On Friday, the police were on site at the same address for a check after a call about a loud bang.

– When we did a check then, there was nothing that indicated that it had been a detonation. We will continue to look at it and include it in this investigation, says Filip Annas.

After Friday's inspection, a report of unlawful threats was made.
