Late Wednesday evening, something detonated at an apartment building in Bellevuegården in Malmö. A boy under the age of 15 is suspected of the explosion.

– We found him hours after the crime, says police spokesperson Nils Norling.

The alarm about the explosion was received just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

– At the scene, we were able to determine that something had exploded near a staircase. There was limited damage to the door, mainly to the glass. No injuries, says Patric Fors, press spokesman for the police.

The residents in the stairwell were housed while the National Bomb Protection Service and forensic experts worked on the scene, says Patric Fors. At 3 a.m., the blockades were lifted.

The incident is classified as gross public destruction and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.

Nils Norling, press spokesman for the police, confirmed on Thursday morning that a boy under the age of 15 is suspected of the explosion, something that Sydsvenskan was first to report .

– We found him hours after the incident at Bellevue. I can't go into where, he says.

For unclear reasons, the boy could not be taken into custody. Instead, the police had to drive him home to his guardians.

– Hopefully, social services will be involved now. They will then conduct an investigation and decide whether any interventions are needed for the child, says Nils Norling.

Another person – a 25-year-old man – is in custody on suspicion of aiding and abetting serious public destruction.
