Mali 🇲🇱 / Mauritania 🇲🇷 | On February 26th, in order to neutralize a terrorist leader, FAMa special units conducted a raid in the village of Melga in Mauritania.

⚫️ Six terrorists were apprehended, including a leader whose identity is still unknown.

🔸 He was hiding in a compound.

ℹ️ There are two villages of Melga (Melgué): one on the Malian side, composed mainly of Soninke and Fulani people, and one on the Mauritanian side, composed of Moors and Fulani people. Only the Karakoro stream separates the two villages.

ℹ️ Although the village of Melga (Mauritania) has never been targeted by terrorists, the Malian side has been targeted several times by the JNIM's Katiba Macina in recent years (May 15, 2023, February 8, 2024, and August 18, 2024), resulting in the deaths of several Malian soldiers.

🔹 The authorities of both countries have not yet issued any official statements.

⚠️ There are reports circulating regarding the presence of Russian mercenaries 🇷🇺 from the Afrika Korps among the participating military forces.
