BAGHDAD — Iraq’s National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Regulatory Control said Tuesday that Toubchi Bridge in the capital is “safe and under control,” with contamination limited to one pillar and posing no threat to public health or the environment. The authority urged citizens not to “be drawn into rumors or media exaggeration” and to rely on official statements, saying reports circulating about the contamination “do not reflect the technical reality of the case.” On Sunday, the authority announced that decontamination operations were ongoing at the affected pillar under direct field supervision. The site has been isolated and cordoned off, access restricted to authorized personnel, and insulating materials deployed to prevent the spread of contamination. Specialized teams and radiation experts from the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority are continuing remediation work and radiation measurements in line with national and international standards, the authority said.
