On 13 February 2026, three armed men (likely members of a local communal militia, based on the location and type of action) opened fire from a vehicle at a police officer (unspecified whether he was on duty) near a police station in Surman (Az Zawiyah, West). During the shooting, the armed group killed a 9-year-old girl who was present at the scene and seriously wounded the police officer with five gunshot wounds. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
