On 11 February 2026, a five-year-old boy died from a stray bullet during a clash between two warring Moro families (rido), each led by a barangay chairperson in Barangay Ulandang (Midsayap, Cotabato, Soccsksargen). The boy was killed inside his classroom at Damabalas Elementary School in Barangay Damabalas, (Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) while the firefight was ongoing in the nearby Barangay Ulandang, Midsayap. A firefight broke out the day before (coded separately) in the same barangay, and although the military led a peace dialogue in Midsayap between the families the same day, fighting resumed this day, 11 February 2026.
