Projectile event in Shabwah, Yemen on Wed 11th February 2026

On 11 February 2026, armed clashes erupted between STC-affiliated armed men and stone-throwing demonstrators on one side and IRG police forces on the other at the local authority building in Ataq (Ataq, Shabwah) using medium to heavy weapons and live ammunition, during a large pro-STC demonstration held in front of the building to commemorate Southern Martyr Day. According to some sources, armed men were also 'disguised' among the demonstrators. The clashes broke out after the STC-affiliated armed men raided the local authority building, removed the Yemen Republic flag, and clashed with IRG police forces, who later retook control of the building. The clashes resulted in the killing of 4 - 7 people from both sides, including two underage demonstrators, and the injury of 15 - 29 others. Total fatalities coded as 4 following the most conservative estimate. According to some sources, the STC-affiliated gunmen were from the Shabwani Defense forces.
