On 11 February 2026, in Tulcan canton (Carchi), Ecuadorian military forces engaged in an armed clash with members of the FARC dissident group Oliver Sinisterra during a military operation in the El Carmen sector, near the border with Colombia. The confrontation caused injuries among members of the dissident group, while no casualties were reported among the Ecuadorian military. Following the clash, the dissident group fled the area. Ecuadorian security forces seized ammunition, communication equipment, uniforms, medical supplies, and other materials, and destroyed a makeshift camp used by the group. There were no fatalities.
