On 11 February 2026, a mine which was a remnant of the former Iraqi regime detonated in Jastan village in Sarkran district (location unknown, coded as Sarkaran city, Kirkuk), killing a 25-year-old shepherd who was grazing his animals. The bomb had been hidden in an old military shed previously belonging to the Iraqi army. Local security forces launched a search of the area for additional explosives and initiated an investigation. 1 fatality.
