From the artillery unit AMaTa‑344 based in Ngathine Chaung town, Yegyi Township, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region, four junta soldiers deserted, and two of them were later shot and captured, according to people close to the military.

On the evening of February 20, four soldiers fled from AMaTa‑344; on February 21, two of them were shot and arrested, while the other two managed to escape, sources said.
