The confirmation of the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho," leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), has plunged western Mexico into a day of unprecedented violence. The epicenter of the panic shifted this morning to the Guadalajara International Airport "Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla," where the presence of armed groups and arson threats forced the complete evacuation of the facilities and the suspension of flight operations.
Passengers and employees experienced moments of terror when emergency alarms were activated inside the airport, the third most important in the country. Videos circulating on social media show dozens of people running through the boarding areas after reports of armed individuals in the vicinity.
Outside, access to the terminal was blocked by burning taxis and the deployment of tire spikes on the Chapala highway, halting traffic and leaving hundreds of travelers stranded in a high-risk area.
The State Government activated Code Red in response to a series of coordinated attacks in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and surrounding municipalities. The areas of greatest conflict include:
Critical road junctions: Blockades with burning vehicles on the Periférico and Calzada Independencia, Periférico and Vallarta, as well as on the highways to Nogales and Chapala.
Direct attacks: Gunfire was reported against security personnel, and public transportation vehicles and private businesses were set on fire.
Affected municipalities: In addition to the capital, disturbances were reported in Tapalpa, Mazamitla, Autlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Zacoalco de Torres.
The response from the armed wing of the CJNG cartel has extended beyond the borders of Jalisco, affecting stability in four other states:

Current Situation
Federal and state forces are maintaining coordinated operations to try to restore order. For the time being, authorities urge the public to avoid traveling through conflict zones and to stay informed strictly through official channels, while the resumption of operations at the Tlajomulco airport is being evaluated.
