A video circulating on social media shows the moment a group of hitmen from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) attacked members of the National Guard. An audio recording is also circulating in which they plead for backup, claiming to be outnumbered and outgunned. The cartel's convoy included several armored vehicles with high-powered weapons. In the recording, which began going viral Sunday morning, the following can be heard: "Support, support; I have 3 wounded and one dead; 10 vehicles with armed men."

Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred after Special Forces personnel clashed with bodyguards of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho," and after Oseguera Cervantes was killed in Tapalpa, Jalisco.

To date, authorities have not issued a detailed statement officially confirming the number of casualties.
