Grenade event in El Oro, Ecuador on Tue 10th February 2026

On 10 February 2026, in La Iberia (El Guabo, El Oro), an unknown number of assailants on a motorcycle threw an explosive device at a residence, where it detonated. The blast injured two banana truck drivers and damaged the house and a parked vehicle. Both victims were returning from work at the time of the attack. Police are investigating the incident as an act of intimidation linked to extortion demands against banana transport workers. No arrests were made. There were no fatalities.
