On 10 February 2026, in Santiago - San Joaquin (Metropolitana), unidentified individuals shot at police officers in the La Legua neighborhood after evading an inspection in Santiago commune and fleeing in a black vehicle. The perpetrators ambushed the police following the pursuit. Police shot back at the assailants and two officers sustained minor injuries due to ricocheting bullets before leaving the area. The police vehicle was hit over ten times. Later the same day, police reported a gunshot victim in the same La Legua neighborhood around the time of the armed clash. The victim died at Barros Luco Hospital. Police were still confirming whether the fatality was connected to the exchange of fire. 1 fatality.
