On 10 February 2026, an unknown perpetrator hurled a hand grenade at a husseiniyya belonging to the Sheikhi Shiite sect in the Al Faraj area of Al Midaina district (location unknown, coded as Al Midaina city, Al Basrah), apparently to spark sectarian strife. The incident followed a recent rise in security tensions between the followers of two leaders of the Sheikhi sect. Local police forces arrested the perpetrator six hours later. There were no casualties.
