On 8 February 2026, police engaged a Niger militia in a firefight while attempting to rescue hostages in a forest near Ibbi, also spelled Ibi (Mashegu, Niger). The militia abandoned the hostages and fled after being outgunned. Police rescued the hostages, who had been abducted three days earlier in Aworo village (coded separately). There were no casualties.
