On 7 February 2026, a land dispute involving groups (described as the Pariath and Paliech clans and coded as unidentified communal militia) escalated into violence during a meeting aimed at resolving the long-standing disagreement in Kunyuk village (Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State). During the meeting, 1 person speared 3 people, killing the chief of the Paliech clan. The violence escalated as angry youth retaliated by severely beating the organizer who later died from his injuries. The deaths heightened tensions in the area.
