On 6 February 2026, near Kelly Village, Tunapuna Piarco, police forces responding to a kidnapping report of a Venezuelan woman clashed with the two-armed suspects. According to police, one of the suspects pointed an object resembling a firearm at them, prompting them to open fire. The suspects fled the scene, leaving the abducted inside a vehicle. The woman was kidnapped at a residence along Caroni South Bank road by two armed men who demanded repayment of a sum of money. 42 kg of cannabis and an AR-15 rifle were seized. There were no casualties.
