On 5 February 2026, in Monywa township (Monywa district, Sagaing region), a combined force of local defense forces intercepted a Myanmar military column of about 20 troops coming from the Northwest Regional Military Command at about 7 am. The two sides then exchanged fire. The combined force includes the Burma Liberation Democratic Front, the Black Falcon Urban Guerrilla Force, the People's Liberation Army, the People's Defense Force - Monywa District (Battalion-24 Company-3), the People's Defense Force - Ka Naung Min Thar Gyi (Monywa), the People's Security Force (Area 5), the Ah Mae Thar LPDF, the Blood Brothers Group - Monywa, and the Three Stars People's Defense Force. Khit Thit Media reported that 9 military troops were killed and 10 injured, while a member of the combined force was killed and another sustained injuries. The DVB and Mizzima reported that at least 10 military troops, including a lieutenant, were killed. Meanwhile, Narinjara News and a later report by Mizzima reported that 6 military troops and a member of the combined force were killed. The combined force also seized one MA-1 rifle and one MA-11 rifle. Fatalities coded as 7 (6 military troops and a member of the combined force), using the lowest estimate.
