On 2 February 2026, in Hpakant town (Hpakant township, Mohnyin district, Kachin state), Myanmar military fired heavy weapons two times around 5:00 am and 10:00 am. The first shelling hit Ma Shi Ka Htaung ward, injured one civilian and another shelling hit the school and injured two 10-year-old children. While the Myanmar Now and Democratic Voice of Burma reported that the Myanmar military conducted the firing, Eleven Media Group reported that the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces were responsible for the attack.
