On 31 January 2026, in Hpakant township (Mohnyin district, Kachin state), fighting broke out between the Myanmar military forces and the joint forces of Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) and the Kachin Region People's Defense Force (KPDF) as the Myanmar military column advanced from Htone Bo village towards Seik Mu village, which is controlled by KIA joint forces around 9:00 am. The military forces from Hpakant Tactical Command Base also fired heavy artillery toward the area of the engagement and around Hpakant town. Some local residents were trapped during the clash. Casualties unknown.
