On 31 January 2026, in Banmauk town (Banmauk township, Katha district, Sagaing region), the joint forces of the Myanmar military and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) attacked Kachin Independence Army (KIA), People's Defense Forces (PDF) under the NUG, All Burma Students' Democratic Front (ABSDF), and allied forces. The military and the SNA regained control of eastern part of the town including the City Hall and the Public Hospital. The joint forces also controlled 3 out of 4 wards in the town. The town was seized by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the People's Defense Forces (PDF) under the NUG, the All Burma Students' Democratic Front (ABSDF), and allied forces on 20 September 2025. Casualties unknown.
