On 31 January 2026, police and police reservists trailed and ambushed unknown gunmen (coded as unidentified ethnic militia, due to the prevalence of ethnically motivated attacks by pastoral militia), leading to an armed clash between Olla Jarole, Bula Gudud, and LMD areas of Isiolo town (Isiolo, Isiolo), moments after the gunmen had invaded the Kachewa (other sources mention Akadeli) area and killed a 15-year-old herder who was also a student, while his uncle sustained injuries, before driving away with an unknown number of shoats. Most of the shoats were recovered following the incident.
