Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 20 others were injured when an improvised explosive device planted in a Zaranj rickshaw detonated near the main gate of Miryan Police Station in Bannu on Monday morning.

Police deployed a large contingent to secure the area and began investigations. They added that a rickshaw packed with explosives was used in the attack.

“There are shops located outside Miryan Police Station,” said Bannu Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan. An improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted on a Zaranj rickshaw parked in front of one of the shops, he added.

“The police personnel at the site were unharmed in the explosion,” DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan confirmed. After the blast, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has condemned the explosion that took place outside Miryan Police Station in Bannu district.

In a statement issued by the governor’s house, Kundi expressed sorrow over the deaths of two individuals in the blast. He offered prayers for the deceased and their families, praying for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and patience for the bereaved.

The governor expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the relatives of the victims and said the provincial leadership shared the grief of the families affected by the explosion. He also denounced those responsible, stating that terrorists are enemies of humanity and the peace of the province.

Separately, terrorists destroyed a bridge late on Monday night on the Tank–Wana main road in Tank by planting explosives at the Kot Hakim location.
