On 24 December 2019, regime force shelled Ma'arrat An Nu'man and its countryside with high explosive missiles amid airstrikes by regime and Russian warplanes and the dropping of barrel bombs by regime helicopters on the town's countryside. Neither injuries nor fatalities were reported.
