On 24 January 2026, NSS officers shot and killed 4 armed individuals (coded as Jonglei communal militia) as they were hunting in the forest of Duk Deng, Poktap, Ageer Payam (Duk, Jonglei). NSS claimed the deceased possessed prohibited firearms. On 25 January 2026, SSPDF released a statement ordering armed civilians to immediately surrender their rifles at the nearest SSPDF base.
