Other MoA event in West, Az Zawiyah area, Libya on Fri 30th January 2026

On 30 January 2026, overnight, the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA), commanded by Hassan Buzriba, and the First Security Division, led by Mohamed Bahroun, took control of the headquarters of the 459th Border Guard Battalion, led by Mohammed Al-Murtaah, following a clash that included heavy weapons in the Sayyida Zeinab area in southern Az Zawiyah (Az Zawiyah, West). Members of the 459th Battalion, which is considered to be aligned with the GNU, withdrew from the site, and Al Silaa Brigade (also known as the 103rd Battalion) deployed to the area as a neutral force to calm tensions. At least 1 person was killed and two others were injured (unclear whether fighters or civilians). The move by the SSA and the First Security Division, which are increasingly opposed to GNU Prime Minister Dbeiba, came after tensions between the SSA and the 459th Battalion had increased in the preceding days and led to a mobilization of forces (coded separately). Following the clash, the commander of the 55th Brigade, Muammar al-Dawi, hosted a reconciliation meeting between Buzriba and Al-Murtaah to de-escalate tensions.
