On 30 January 2026, Peshmerga forces (1st Regiment of the 32nd Brigade) clashed with four militants suspected of ISIL affiliation at a checkpoint near Qala village in the area of Daway near Nawjul city (location unknown, coded as Nawjul city, Kirkuk), after troops had spotted the militants approaching their positions and opening fire, prompting Peshmerga to return fire and force their retreat and escape toward a nearby village. The militants had carried thermal scopes and sniper rifles. The Peshmerga conducted limited sweeps. There were no casualties.
