The incident occurred on Saturday night in the First Police District of Shiberghan, the provincial capital, when suspected robbers opened fire on security personnel, triggering an exchange of gunfire, according to a statement from the provincial police office. All four assailants were killed during the shootout.

A subsequent search of the scene recovered two assault rifles, two hand grenades, and various stolen items, the statement added.
