On 05 January 2020, regime warplanes carried out airstrikes on residential areas, a school, and a mosque in the town of Ariha in Idleb, killing 13 people, including 1 woman and 3 children, and wounding 15 others. Some of the civilians killed in the strikes were IPDs from Maar Shamarin. The strikes targeted and partially damaged the buildings of Khaled Bashir al-Halabiya school (also known as the Al-Muhaditha school) Al-Hadidi and Imam Malik mosques, a women centre, 2 day nurseries, and an education centre affiliated with Muslim Care.
