SAA event in Mexico on Sun 25th January 2026

In Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico, gunmen from the MataSalas cartel (also known as Matasalas or Los Mata Salas) killed another member of the criminal organization led by Fernando "Nando Arenas" (also referred to as "La Jotiza"), a drug trafficker tied to the Los Salazar faction. The victim endured heavy threats and insults during the attack, with attackers repeatedly calling Nando Arenas "culo de queso" (roughly "cheese ass"). This marks the second individual connected to Nando Arenas killed this week amid escalating violence between rival groups. Prior to the execution, the victim was interrogated about alleged ties between local police officers and Nando Arenas's criminal network. This reflects the ongoing conflict in the region between MataSalas (aligned with factions like Los Chapitos) and Los Salazar affiliates.
