22nd January 2026
On the night of January 22, 2026, two men on a motorcycle threw a fragmentation grenade in Bogotá's Santa Fe neighborhood (Los Mártires locality), in the downtown area near Calle 23 and Carrera 16, outside nightlife establishments (including bars like Troya and Adonis in the tolerance zone). The explosion killed one person (a 75-year-old man who later died from injuries) and injured at least 13 others, many with shrapnel wounds. Authorities, including the Policía de Bogotá and Fiscalía, are investigating possible motives such as extortion, disputes between criminal groups, or a targeted attack. A security camera video later surfaced showing the suspects fleeing after the throw. The perpetrators remain unidentified.
