Canadian Police arrested two Indian-origin men, identified as Harshdeep Singh (20) and Hanspreet Singh (21), who were detained on January 26 near 129 Street and 84 Avenue, with a loaded handgun recovered from their vehicle in connection with an extortion-linked shooting in Surrey, British Columbia (BC), in Canada, reports The New Indian Express. Both were charged with multiple firearm-related offences. In 2025, Surrey recorded 132 extortion attempts, 49 involving shootings, largely affecting South Asian businesses. British Columbia Premier David Eby described the intimidation campaign as terrorism in slow motion. As foreign nationals, the Canada Border Services Agency has been engaged. Police appealed for public assistance to identify further linkages.
