IED event in Pattani, Talubo area, Thailand on Wed 4th February 2026

An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialist was injured while defusing bombs found in a toilet at a PTT petrol station in Muang district of this southern border province on Wednesday morning.

Authorities said improvised explosive devices were discovered at three PTT stations in tambon Sabarang and tambon Talubo on Tuesday night, prompting the deployment of EOD teams.

At a PTT station on Highway 410 (Pattani–Yala) in Talubo, a maid spotted a suspicious object in a toilet for people with disabilities. According to the southern outpost of the Internal Security Operations Command, the EOD specialist found two time bombs in the toilet area and successfully defused one in the children’s toilet. However, while attempting to defuse a second device in the adult toilet, it exploded at about 9.15am.

The injured officer, identified as Pol Sen Sgt Maj Pichitpan Vejjacheewee, was rushed to Pattani Hospital with severe injuries to his right hand.

The incident follows a series of coordinated attacks on 11 PTT petrol stations across Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala provinces on Jan 11, 2026, involving bombings and arson that left four people injured.

Earlier this week, authorities also reported that eight of the 19 suspects in last year’s high-profile armed robbery of a gold shop had prior security-related offences and were linked to the bombing of a PTT petrol station in Chanae district last month.
