Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Malmö, Lorensborg area, Sweden on Tue 3rd February 2026

Something exploded in a stairwell in Malmö on Tuesday evening. The National Bomb Squad was sent to the scene for an investigation. A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of serious public danger.

The alarm about the explosion at Lorensborg in Malmö came at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

– Something has exploded and there is smoke in the stairwell, said Jakob Palmgren, press spokesman for the police shortly after the call.

Police, rescue services and an ambulance were called to the scene. There are no reports of anyone being injured.

The National Bomb Squad arrived at the scene at 9:40 p.m. They found no more explosive objects or substances. The residents were evacuated and police conducted interviews throughout the evening and night.

At 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday night, the police announced that they had finished working at the scene.

– We have conducted a technical examination at the scene and are waiting for the results. We currently have one person arrested, says Mikael Holmström, on-call investigation officer in Malmö.

It concerns a teenage boy over 15 years old. He was arrested in another location in Skåne and was detained on Wednesday, suspected of serious public danger.
